Malaysia-China 50th Anniversary Coffee Table Book and Photo Exhibition

The Star Media Group and Sin Chew Daily hosted The Blossoming and Fruiting Coffee Table Book and Malaysia-China 50th Anniversary Photo Exhibition at the Centre Court Concourse of Mid Valley Megamall, Kuala Lumpur, on 5 August 2024 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Malaysia-China diplomatic relationship. The event marked the official launch of the coffee table book and photo exhibition, highlighting the rich history and evolving ties between the two economies.

The event was graced by esteemed guests of honour, including H.E. Ambassador Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Malaysia; Mr Manoharan Periasamy, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia; Mr Koo Cheng, Executive Director of Sin Chew Media Corporation Berhad and Chief Executive Officer of Sin Chew Daily; Mr Chan Seng Fatt, CEO of Star Media Group; and UTAR Vice President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Ts Dr Faidz bin Abd Rahman.

Also in attendance were prominent figures such as Media Chinese International Limited Group Editor-in-Chief (Malaysia) and Sin Chew Daily Editor-in-Chief Mr Kuik Cheng Kang, Star Media Group Chief Content Officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng Sek Yee, Mid Valley City Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Ms Lee Chai Tin, Airasia Global Policy & Government Relations Chief Mr Lim Boon Seong, The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) President Tan Sri Dato‘ Low Kian Chuan, The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia President Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Goh Tian Chuan, Centre For Malaysian Chinese Studies President Mr Yau Teck Kong, United Malacca Berhad Chairperson Datin Paduka Tan Siok Choo, Malaysia-China Friendship Association President Dato Abdul Majid, China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia (CECCM) President Mr Ni Qingjiu and many more.



The book launch

During the launching ceremony, speeches were delivered by H.E. Ambassador Ouyang Yujing, Mr Manoharan, who represented the Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, YB Dato’ Sri Tiong King Sing, Mr Koo, and Mr Chan. This was followed by the official unveiling of the Coffee Table Book and the opening of the photo exhibition. Following the ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Ouyang Yujing and Mr Manoharan toured the photo exhibition.

As the education partner, UTAR collaborated closely with the Star Media Group and Sin Chew Daily, contributing approximately 200 photographs across 270 pages in the coffee table book and nearly 300 photographs in the exhibition. The project was spearheaded by the UTAR Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre for Social and Policy Studies (TCLC), led by TCLC Chairperson Assoc Prof Dr Chin Yee Mun, with contributions from Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) academic Dr Soon Thean Bee, TCLC Researcher Fellow Dr Tan Sing Pei, FCI Department of Mass Communication Head Mr Kenneth Lee Tze Wui, TCLC Assistant Manager Mr Lee Jenn Yuan and DCCPR Assistant Manager Dr Toh Chen Chun.

he photo exhibition will be open to the public from 5 August until 18 August 2024, operating daily from 10 am to 10 pm at the Centre Court Concourse (ground floor), Mid Valley Megamall.
