Reimagining Malaysia: Some thoughts on Tan Cheng Lock and nationhood

Tun Tan Cheng Lock Centre for Social and Policy Studies (TCLC) organised a talk entitled “Reimagining Malaysia: Some thoughts on Tan Cheng Lock and nationhood” conducted by Dr. Chong Eu Choong from UTAR (FCI), on 25 October 2019.
Present at the talk were UTAR TCLC Chairperson Assoc Prof Dr Chin Yee Mun, and 10 more attendees including UTAR academic staff, students who are interested in this topic.
The talk focused on the meaning of nationhood for a post-colonial nation-state. In this presentation, Dr Chong tried to examine the ideas of Tan Cheng Lock on nationhood in a plural society that was British Malaya. The purpose of this examination wss to help us gain a fresh perspective on the current debate on nationhood in the country.
Dr. Chong Eu Choong is attached with the Department of Media, FCI. His research interest lies in Malaysian politics, political communication, and he is also the principle investigator of a research grant on Tun Tan Cheng Lock. He has numerous publications of books, book chapters, journals, magazines and newspapers column articles.
